AMET Institute of Science and Technology (AMET IST) is located along the scenic beauty of east coast road at Madura, Thenpattinam in Mugaiyur facing the deep blue Bay of Bengal. Established under the trust of AMET, AMET IST is exclusively built on a space 21.02 acres within the sprawling 137 acres of campus area which is set to become AMET KNOWLEDGE PARK in the years to come. AMET IST is developed with an objective and understanding to serve as MAERSK CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE (MCE) in order to honour the tall, strong and staunch association of AMET and MAERSK for the last three decades.
The vision to develop AMET IST as Maersk Centre of excellence was conceived by founder and chancellor of AMET University Dr J Ramachandran way back in 2020. The noble and futuristic vision was fostered by Maersk by way of its Head of Marine – HR, Mr. Niels H.Bruss laying the foundation stone on 24th October 2019. The project took momentum with Shri Amitabh Kumar, Directorate General of Shipping and Mr. Karan Kochhar, Head of Marine people Asia of Maersk, inaugurating the building construction ceremony.
The grand inauguration of the induction program for the first batch B.Sc Nautical Science, BE Marine engineering and Diploma in Nautical science cadets was held on 22nd August 2023 and AMET IST was declared open for training by chief guest Dr J Ramachandran, Founder and Chancellor of AMET.
The Maersk centre of excellence has been established exclusively to train the cadets selected for A.P. Moller Maersk. Besides that cadets sponsored by V Group, Fleet Management Limited and Pacific International Lines (PIL) are also being trained under Diploma in Nautical Science stream. The exclusive campus hosts a plethora of electrical and electronic laboratories, workshops, communication labs, safety lab, seamanship lab, simulators, facility to scale up to adopt augmented and virtual reality and a canal to practice boat rowing and operation of life boats.
