The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) is a licensed member of a merchant ship's engine department, responsible for monitoring sensors and alarm systems. They are on call 24 hours a day, working a daily shift on electrical and electronic maintenance, repairs, diagnosis, installations, and testing. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) amended STCW 95 in 2010 to introduce the certified position of ETO in place of Electrical officers.
This This electro technical officer course (as per STCW 2010 amendments) seeks to impart skill-based training about the Electrical System on board ships. Successful candidates will be given DGS approved Course Completion Certificate, INDOSS and Indian CDC.
Residential Program with 17 weeks course training + 2 weeks exclusive safety practices training. The ETO course duration includes a 17-week residential programme of course training. Sanction Strength 40 per batch. Admission Twice a year. January and July Batch.
Electro Technical Officer course eligibility As per DGS Norms, candidates must pass the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics 10+2 course and have a minimum of 50% in English in the 10th or 12th-standard examinations. If a candidate fails to score 50% in English on their 10th or 12th standard, they will still be qualified if they score 50% in the degree exam and English as the medium of instruction.
ETO course eligibility criteria require candidates to Obtain minimum 60% marks in a three-year diploma programme or a 50% marks in a four-year degree programme, including lateral entry, in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, electrical and electronic engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electronics and telecommunication, electronics and instrumentation, or an equivalent. The diploma or degree programs need to have been approved by the AICTE, the Central Government, or any State government. Candidate must be an Indian citizen. Passport is mandatory
Candidate must be medically fit including eye sight and hearing as prescribed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, as amended. Candidates will be required to produce a certificate of medical fitness issued by doctors approved by the Directorate General of Shipping.
Normal color vision shall be tested by Ishihara Test Chart. Distance Vision unaided 0.5*(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in the better eye and 0.33*(6/18) in another eye.
Not more than 35 years on date of commencement of training and medically fit including eyesight and hearing as prescribed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000 as amended. (*Subject to approval)
